Situated at an old shipping yard near the mouth of the North Sea, a passionate group of volunteers designs, builds, and tests rockets and spacecraft. The non-profit group, which calls itself Copenhagen Suborbitals, has a lofty goal: to launch one of their own to the edge of space.
I’d covered Copenhagen Suborbitals off and on for years, and even helped bring (now-former) co-founder Kristian von Bengston aboard as a blogger for Wired.
A short feature I wrote, titled “The Crazy DIY Spaceflight Project That Just Might Work,” covered the operation’s genesis in 2008 up to their summer 2012 launch season on the high seas.
